The COPS Office Announces Winners of its Fifth Annual “Community Policing in Action” Photo Contest

The Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) today announced the 12 winners of its fifth annual “Community Policing in Action” Photo Contest. The contest, piloted in 2014, has received widespread support from law enforcement for providing a platform for agencies to share positive interaction with community members.
This year, the COPS Office invited state, local, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies to submit one photo that best depicts community policing in action. Almost 150 agencies participated and through an office-wide selection process, the following photos were chosen as winners:
  • Camden County (New Jersey) Police Department
  • Charleston (South Carolina) Police Department
  • Cranston (Rhode Island) Police Department
  • DeKalb (Illinois) Police Department
  • Fauquier County (Virginia) Sheriff’s Office
  • Grand Rapids (Michigan) Police Department
  • Harris County (Texas) Constable – Precinct 3
  • Largo (Florida) Police Department
  • Methuen (Massachusetts) Police Department
  • Michigan State Police Department
  • Orange County (California) Sheriff’s Department
  • Round Rock (Texas) Police Department
The 12 winning photos will be featured on the COPS Office website and social media accounts monthly during the 2019 calendar year. In addition, the winning agencies will be featured in articles in the COPS Office e-newsletter, The Community Policing Dispatch
Due to the lapse in federal appropriations, the COPS Office was unable to announce and begin featuring these winners in January, however we remain committed to featuring all 12 photo contest winners throughout 2019.
